The Jets/Dolphins AFC rivalry has yet again been renewed, as we saw another thriller between the two teams yesterday at the Meadowlands. But yet again, the Jets came up just short in a shootout and fell to 4-4 with a hard-fought 30-25 loss, punctuated by a Dolphins goal line stand with less than a minute to play. The first half was a sloppy one, with both offenses sputtering and the result being a 3-3 HT tie. In the second half, the flow went something like this: Ted Ginn TD runback, Jets TD drive, Ginn TD runback, Jets TD drive. Yep, Miami punt returner Ted Ginn took two punts straight to the house, in a row, setting an NFL record.
Ginn’s heroics were matched though, by equally impressive drives down the field led by Sanchez, with the newly acquired WR Braylon Edwards serving as an attractive and reliable target. But ultimate it was the Dolphins’ defense that was the deciding factor, making a pivotal 4-and-out after Sanchez and Edwards were able to rally the Jets down to the Dolphins’ 15 with less than a minute left down 5, before the Dolphins D was able to make the series of stops it needed to secure the win. What a heartbreaking moment for a group of giddy Gang Green fans.
